Entertaiment means to hold the attention or interest, or give pleasure and delight. It may be an idea or a task, but is more likely to be one of the activities or events that have developed over thousands of years specifically for this purpose.
According to Oliver and Barstsch (2010), entertainment is an activity that can be understood objectively, encompasses communication between text and audience from an external stimulus, offers pleasure, requires an audience to exist, and takes place in a passive form.
The word originates from the Medieval Latin intertenere, derived from the prefix inter meaning “inside” and the suffix ten, a contraction of the Indo-European root ten, meaning to stretch or extend.
