Healthy Relationships

Relationships

Relationships are the connections we have with others, either platonic or romantic. There is research that suggests healthy relationships can be very positive for our mental and physical health. However, it is important to remember that we need to be healthy and whole on our own before pursuing a relationship. Often, a significant other can be helpful in providing support or healing when we are struggling.

One of the most important qualities in a healthy relationship is trust. Having trust in a relationship means that you can take your partner at their word and expect them to be honest with you. It also includes respecting their choices and feelings. It can be difficult to disagree with someone in a close relationship, but being able to do so respectfully is important for a healthy relationship.

Another important aspect of a healthy relationship is being able to physically be intimate. It can be hard to make time for this in the day-to-day grind of life, but establishing some regular couple time is a great way to stay connected. It can be as simple as going to a movie together or spending some time in nature. Intimacy also involves being able to communicate effectively and understand nonverbal cues.

Lastly, a good relationship will be supportive of your individual goals and needs. They will encourage you to stay true to yourself and be the best person you can be. Whether it is encouraging you to see a therapist or reminding you to drink enough water, they will be there to support you.
