A Brief History of Technology

Technology

Technology can be defined as a branch of knowledge that deals with the scientific use of the means of communication, tools, materials, and techniques for enhancing human life, improving culture, and changing the world. It is an important and influential force in contemporary society.

In the earliest ages, human civilization began with the conversion of natural resources into simple tools. For example, the invention of the wheel made it possible for humans to travel in their environment. This process eventually led to the development of many useful technologies.

Although not all technology has been used for peaceful purposes, it can greatly benefit mankind. Indeed, a good understanding of technology can inspire a career in the field.

Technology also has the potential to harm humanity. Some examples of this include weapons of increasing destructive power that have been developed throughout history. However, technological advancements have also contributed to the expansion of the human lifespan. Medicine has played a major role in this development.

A major theme in the philosophy of technology is the belief that technology learns from nature. This idea is present in ancient Greece. The most ancient source for this belief is Heraclitus.

During the Middle Ages, technological progress was strong. Various advancements included the invention of the printing press, which reduced physical barriers for communication.

Later, the term “technology” became associated with science. It was later expanded to include all the processes and machinery used in a given field.
